A statement announcing the decision said a small number of staff would be maintained to run the company in the meantime. It explained that the action was necessary because the company is unable to pay salaries of staff, having been out of operation for some time. The workers are already owed four months pay.

But key partner and minority shareholder, Sammy Crabbe, who declined to attend Tuesday's board meeting, told Joy News the latest move is simply in furtherance of a calculated move by the Mills administration to collapse the airline.

He defended his decision to abstain from Tuesday's board meeting, saying being part of the meeting would amount to giving credence to an illegality.

He, therefore, described the action taken by the current board as illegal, adding that he and some former board members have sued the government for $15 million at The Hague for some unpopular decisions it [government] took for the company.
