In Ghana, total mobile network subscriber base as at May, 2012 hit 22,453,907 from 21.8 million in April 2012, according to statistics from telecom regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA)
In the recently released data, biggest operator, MTN had a marginal increase from approximately 10.52 million to 10.644 million between April and May 2012 and maintained its edge over the competition.
MTN holds about 47 percent of total mobile market share in Ghana.
Next on the line is Vodafone, the second biggest network operator in the country with a market share of 21 percent. Vodafone currently has a subscriber base of approximately 4.67 million users.
Tigo is officially the third biggest network operator with a subscriber base of 3,457,427, representing 15 percent of the total market share.
From NCA’s data, another new entrant, Airtel, is fast catching up with TIGO to contend third place on subscriber numbers. Airtel currently has a market share of 14 percent with 3,015,499 subscribers.
In Ghana, mobile telecommunication is perhaps the fastest growing service as there are currently about 90 percent of Ghanaians hooked onto one network provider or more.
